Hearts Knit Together #31: Corndog Muffins and Why I am the Favorite Child

Hearts Knit Together was born out of my struggle to balance my desire to create with my busy life as a mother of four. I am challenging myself to do something creative WITH my children each week and to share that adventure with you on Mondays. I invite you to share your creativity with your children so that we might inspire each other with ideas to help "knit our hearts together."

If you want to join me, write a blog post about something creative you did with kids and share your link in the comments. No rules really, only that your link is current and something about creating with children. They don't even have to be your own kids. Please remember to link back to The Gauge Wars so that others who may want to join can find it. Pretty simple. Your post can be from any day of the week. It doesn't have to be Monday. Thank you for participating!

So corn dog muffins may be a bit of a stretch for a creative Hearts Knit Together post but I REALLY like corn dogs. And it was pretty easy to convert my children to the dark side too. I know what hotdogs are made of, gross, and that deep fried anything is generally frowned on by health people but they are just so tasty! :) And spending time cooking with the boys (including one that I swap babysitting with his mother) is helping me work through my long list of pins on my Pinterest "If I cooked" board. Here is the recipe in case you too love corn dogs and are looking for a slightly more healthy recipe than deep fried.

My love for corn dogs started as a young child and is proof that I am my mother's favorite child. We let my brother believe he is the favorite so he feels obligated to take my parents in when they can no longer take care of themselves (because the other 5 of us our jerks, clearly). But really the favorite is me. And now the truth is out there. Why are corn dogs proof you ask? When I was a child I would accompany my mom on every errand she would let me. One of the best was when she went to the Sears Mall. In the mall was the best little shop that deep fried the corn dogs right before your eyes. They were seriously the best corn dogs ever. And every time we went to the mall, Mom would buy me one. Proof, see! With a family of 8 we didn't eat out much but she always took me. :) And now I think of my mother every time I eat a corn dog. And if I die an early death related to eating deep fried meat with fillers we can blame her.

On a different creative note, see little Jude below? Before he received a sled from Santa for Christmas he made one out of paper grocery bags and other items he found in the recycle box. He even tried to use it a few times but abandoned it when given the real thing. Now ever since he tried out another child's skateboard sled a few weeks ago he has been obsessed with getting a snow board. "Mom if it isn't too many cents can you buy me a snowboard for my birthday?" So cute. Well, he gave up on me and has made his own below. He is a little frustrated in the photo because he can't get the boot straps quite right with scotch tape. Isn't that the most adorable thing you've ever seen?!?
